Ramadan and Fasting
6 June 2017 (by admin)
Ramadan has begun and the school is very much aware of how important this time is for our Muslim children and their families.
Parents inform us that due to the age of the children, the length of the fasting days this year and health and wellbeing considerations, the majority of pupils should not be fasting on school days, although some may keep fasts at the weekend. However, to support any older children who may be fasting, we have set aside a classroom for activities and quiet reflection where they will go at lunchtime- instead of eating in the dining room. They will still be allowed to play outside, as usual, for part of the lunch break. All children will follow the usual class curriculum timetable including PE, however the school will endeavour to minimise any extra sporting activity during this time, for those who are fasting.
Please note: On the days a child is fasting parents should send a signed letter to school stating the child’s name, class and date of fast. For their own wellbeing, children without a signed letter from their parent will not be allowed to fast.
